Kombucha: Amazing 6 Benefits of This Natural Detox Drink

June 20, 2018 By Prem Lee Prasannan

What is Kombucha?

Kombucha, often simply referred to as kombucha tea, is a fermented, slightly effervescent tea drink that has gained popularity for its supposed health benefits. Originating from Northeast China, kombucha is made by adding a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY) to sweetened tea, which then ferments over a period of days to weeks.

This fermentation process produces a drink that contains a variety of vitamins, acids, and enzymes, along with a small amount of alcohol due to the fermentation. Fans of kombucha claim it aids digestion, boosts the immune system, and provides a natural source of probiotics.

However, while some studies suggest potential health benefits, scientific evidence is still limited and often inconclusive, leading to debates about its efficacy. The taste of kombucha varies from a tart, vinegar-like flavor to a slightly sweet, fizzy drink, depending on the fermentation time, the type of tea used, and additional flavorings like fruits or herbs.

Kombucha Origin:
