Bavani Sivananda – Yoga Teacher & Holistic Nutritionist

June 5, 2020 By Editor

Bavani Sivananda was born and raised in Sri Lanka and moved to Canada with her family in the early 1990s. Her passion to study and practice Holistic Nutrition and yoga started when she was suffering from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and realised that allopathic treatments were not helping her.

In 2011, she started Holistic Nutrition and Yoga training formally for the next two years to understand human health and nutrition in depth. After completing the nutrition certification and Yoga training, she started practising, teaching and continued her research which helped her to adopt a more holistic lifestyle.

The knowledge gained through the training and its application into her life has significantly improved her health condition. This inspired her to start the health and wellness practice (Holistic Nutrition and Yoga with Bavani) which is based in Markham, Ontario, Canada.

In 2015, she attended the 5-month intensive (1750+hrs) Classical Hatha Yoga Teacher’s training at Isha Yoga in Coimbatore, India. This transformative training process has deepened her understanding of Yoga as a profound science, which helped her to restructure her life the way she wanted it, and to reach a certain level of equanimity and freedom within. Bavani has conducted many workshops, private and weekly sessions in Classical Hatha Yoga over the last 5 years.

Her passion to cook wholesome meals from scratch led to culinary nutrition training in Toronto. In 2018, Bavani completed a program called Culinary Nutrition Expert at the Academy of Culinary Nutrition. This program unleashed her creative potential to experiment with various healthy recipes while deepening her love for using food as medicine.

Bavani’s formal training in Nutrition and Classical Hatha Yoga has helped her develop a great understanding of the body-mind connection and the power of food over the body and mind. IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is a complex digestive condition that requires a comprehensive approach to take control of it.  There is no quick fix for it. Her research and personal experience with this condition has helped her to design a 12-week online IBS program “iControlIBS” to teach people who suffer from painful IBS symptoms and to reclaim their health.

She helps people who are seeking holistic, practical, and evidence-based solutions for their IBS symptoms, seeking to enhance their health and well-being through Classical Hatha Yoga, or interested in learning to cook simple, wholesome food from scratch.
